Posted on April 7, 2026 in News

Downtown Moncton Centre-ville Inc. (DMCI) and the City of Moncton are proud to announce the launch of the Downtown Resilience Program, a new initiative designed to support downtown businesses, strengthen safety, and invest in the long-term vitality of Downtown Moncton.

The two-year pilot program (2026-2027), fully funded by the City of Moncton, will provide $250,000 annually to help downtown businesses recover from incidents of vandalism and criminal activity, while also funding proactive safety improvements that help prevent future incidents and enhance overall business resilience.

The Downtown Resilience Program reflects a collaborative, forward-looking approach focused on supporting businesses, strengthening confidence, and ensuring Downtown Moncton remains a vibrant and welcoming destination for residents, visitors, and investors.

“This program represents an important investment in our downtown businesses and the long-term strength of our urban core,” says Patrick Richard, Executive Director of Downtown Moncton Centreville Inc. “By supporting both recovery and prevention, we are helping businesses feel supported today while building a stronger, more resilient downtown for the future.”

The program will offer financial assistance for eligible businesses within the Downtown Moncton Business Improvement Area (BIA) and will focus on both rapid recovery support and preventative safety improvements to help reduce repeat incidents and improve overall downtown resilience and retention.

“We are pleased to support downtown businesses through this pilot program. Our downtown businesses have been open with us about the challenges they are facing and this initiative is one way in which we are responding to those concerns," says Moncton Deputy Mayor Paulette Thériault. "We are fortunate to have a strong, vibrant downtown core and programs like this ensure Downtown Moncton remains a key economic and social hub in our city."

The Downtown Resilience Program is part of ongoing efforts by Downtown Moncton Centre-ville Inc. and the City of Moncton to support economic growth, improve the business environment, and continue building momentum in downtown Moncton.
